Vision Statement: Greater Shekinah Glory Church is a multicultural body, growing with strong men, women, and children, impacting the world with the kingdom.

The Call

From HIS Heart to mine; to the Den in our home; to the streets; to public buildings; to the present: The call came in a vision which included, 1 Cor. 9:16, “…for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.” From there I never looked back. While working in the corporate world as a Human Resource Director for Siecor, God instructed me to leave a well-established, financially secured life style, to a single focus of Ministry. With excitement, I shared it with my husband. He immediately said, “God did not tell me that.” With time and circumstances, he relented, allowed and released me into full-time service to the Lord.

The Church

On July 7, 1999, the church was birthed in our Den with just my husband, and our three children. Our home was transformed every Sunday morning into Greater Shekinah Fellowship! I preached the Word and Brother Johnson, a teacher by trade, willingly took his rightful place to lead the Sunday School! Kandice, our daughter, served as the Worship and Music Leader; Lance and Brent, our devoted sons, collected tithes and offering! The Johnson family was ignited and on fire for God! It was an exciting time; My family fondly reminds me that I preached to the walls and mirrors of our home! This “fire” ignited to the streets of the Hickory community; a multicultural church began to emerge! The body of the church multiplied, and it became very clear to me that the walls of our home would not be sufficient. I prepared a proposal and began presenting it to the banks. Knowing that in “the natural” the banks would see our church as a liability, a risky loan, I believed the Lord would provide! I continued to walk by faith, and God gave me favor in the sight of a lender that approved a loan needed to transition to another property. In 2002, the name of the church was changed to Greater Shekinah Glory (GSG); a more fitting name to honor the Glory of God! Our VISION speaks to our GLOBAL mandate, “Greater Shekinah Glory church is a multicultural body growing with strong men, women and children, impacting the world with the Kingdom.”

The Name

The name, “Shekinah”, does not appear in the Bible except in its root form sakan (dwell) which occurs frequently. The ancient Jewish writers used Shekinah to speak of God’s presence. They used this to refer to God’s nearness in a person, object or His glory. Old Testament images, like the pillar of cloud which went before the children of Israel by day, and the pillar of fire hovering above by night; also over the Tent of Meeting, the Tabernacle and the sanctuary, are all images of the Shekinah Glory of God.
